A drone strike on gas vessels in Egypt's Mediterranean port of Damietta has raised fears of an expanded conflict in the region. The attack, which occurred on Wednesday, targeted a US-owned gas storage tanker and another vessel, causing a fire that was later extinguished.
Investigation and Response
The Egyptian cabinet has launched an investigation into the incident, with preliminary findings indicating that an unidentified drone was responsible for the attack. The cabinet has also stated that no group has claimed responsibility, and authorities are taking measures to protect Egypt's national security.
The US military has struck Iran's Revolutionary Guards' military command centers and drone facilities in response to Tehran's firing at US forces in the region. Iranian state media has reported that three civilians were killed and two children wounded in the US strikes, while three Guards members were killed in a separate incident.

The attack on the gas vessels in Damietta has disrupted LNG import operations, reducing Egypt's import flexibility during peak summer gas demand.
