Editorial Standards

The Maritime is a journalism and intelligence publication. Everything we publish, from a single market note to a full feature, is held to one standard: it must be accurate, it must be attributable to evidence, and it must never blur what is known from what is not.

Original reporting

Our journalism is our own. We report the maritime sector from primary information, official records and the data on our own platform, and we publish under our own masthead. We do not republish, reproduce or lift the reporting of other maritime outlets, and our articles do not cite or link them. When we state a fact, it stands on our own work.

Data-driven journalism

Much of what we publish is computed from the underlying dataset: a price move, a fleet trend, a risk signal. Where a story rests on data, the figure carries the date its own data holds, and any estimate, model output or behavioural indicator is labelled as such, never presented as a settled fact. We describe what the data shows; we do not overclaim what it cannot.

Verification & sourcing

Before publication, claims are checked against primary and official sources. Where an item concerns a named vessel, company or individual, we hold it to a higher bar of corroboration, and we distinguish clearly between what has been confirmed, what is reported, and what remains uncertain.

Independence

Our editorial judgement is independent of commercial relationships. Coverage is not for sale, and no advertiser, partner or subject of coverage is given influence over what we report or how we report it. Any sponsored or partner content, should it ever appear, will be labelled unambiguously as such.

Corrections

We correct the record promptly and openly. If you believe something we have published is inaccurate or out of date, or if you are the subject of a story and wish to respond, contact editorial@themaritime.net. Substantive corrections are made to the article and, where warranted, noted.

People & privacy

We report on the commercial maritime industry and the professionals who operate it in that capacity. We do not publish private individuals or private pleasure craft, and we handle personal data under our Privacy Policy. Requests concerning personal information are handled through the process described there.
