The demand side of the market — the parties that HIRE tonnage, distinct from the owner and technical manager on the supply side. The most-active charterers by reported fixtures, with their voyage / time-charter split, segment focus and chartered tonnage. A known-fixtures read, explicitly partial — never a market-share claim.
The busiest charterers by fixture count are not the biggest by recorded tonnage — BP leads on 44 reported fixtures yet sits 20th by catalogued chartered tonnage, while Vale tops tonnage at 1.6M dwt on 18 fixtures. Voyage (spot) fixtures dominate — 88% of catalogued fixtures — and only 16 of the 100 charterers on the board take more ships on time charter than on spot.

Average fixture size is what the fixture-count ranking hides. Placing each charterer by fixtures against the parcel size behind them separates the high-frequency spot books from the few names moving the heaviest parcels on a handful of fixtures — the divergence the tonnage bar collapses into a single ranking.
Each charterer placed by how many fixtures it books (horizontal) against its recorded average parcel size (vertical); bubble size is total recorded tonnage. The busiest names sit bottom-right on many small parcels; the heaviest parcels sit top-left on a handful of fixtures — the shape the tonnage bar above flattens into one ranking.
The 29 voyage-led and 16 time-charter-led charterers with a recorded average parcel — the 30 busiest by fixtures plus 15 time-charter-led names below the cut, of 85 with a priced fixture (294 catalogued in all). Bubble area is recorded chartered tonnage.
Showing 100 charterers, sorted by reported fixtures. Voyage / TC is the spot vs time-charter split; Chartered DWT sums fixture deadweight where known, and Avg fixture is its mean over those priced fixtures.
