Shaft Generator

Marine EngineeringEntry updated May 2026

An electrical generator driven by the main engine through the propeller shaft, used to produce electrical power while the vessel is at sea. Shaft generators improve fuel efficiency by using the main engine's surplus power instead of running auxiliary diesel generators, reducing overall fuel consumption and emissions.
