The tugs towed the vessel back to the shipyard in Vancouver, BC and assessed the issue.
On 13 October 2023, the Canadian Coast Guard Ship "SIR JOHN FRANKLIN", with 32 people on board, reported having sustained a total failure of its propulsion control system while anchored in Kyuquot Sound, BC. The failure caused the vessel to move full astern on its own, dragging its anchor towards the shore. The bowthruster and the vessel's workboat were used to avoid the grounding while the system was being restored. The anchor was marked and released as the windlass was damaged during the manoeuvre, and the vessel proceeded to Sidney, BC for repairs and an in-depth inquiry.
