Hawsehole

Meaning

Definition

An opening in the hull or bulwark at the bow through which the anchor chain passes. The hawsehole is fitted with a hawse pipe that guides the chain from the windlass through the hull to the anchor, and is sealed with a hawse pipe cover in heavy weather.
