The Turkish-British Shipping Forum was held at the Chamber of Shipping on Tuesday, October 21, hosted by the Turkish Chamber of Shipping.
Chairman Tamer Kıran opened the event with a welcoming speech, highlighting the strong relations between Türkiye and the United Kingdom in the maritime field.

The forum featured discussions under three main topics: Ship Finance in Transition, Marine Insurance Claims, and Sanctions Update.
“Tariff War’s Effect Less Than Expected””
Burak Çetinok, Head of Research at Arrow Shipbroking, gave a market outlook presentation, touching on the effects of the pandemic, the U.S.–China trade dynamics, and changing trends in global shipping demand.
He stated that: “The effect of tariff war took place less that we expect but it doesn’t mean it will never get bigger.”
In the ship finance panel, Metin Düzgit, Dipak Karki, Chris Vartzis, and moderator Jos Standerwick discussed how market liquidity, regulations, and ESG priorities are shaping investment decisions. Later, Siiri Duddington from Hill Dickinson provided updates on recent sanction cases.

The marine insurance session, moderated by Jos Standerwick, included Simon Chapman, Alex McIntosh, and Melis Otmar, who analyzed how parallel fleets, aging tonnage, and geopolitical tensions impact claims.

The event concluded with presentations from UK maritime service providers, including Idwal, The Baltic Exchange, and DK2, showcasing innovative solutions in inspection, trade trust, and finance.
The Turkish-British Shipping Forum, which also took place last year, will continue next year as a key platform strengthening maritime cooperation between Türkiye and the UK.
